Olabisi Ekong:
Hello. Good afternoon. My name is Olabisi Ekong, and I serve as the PHIG Evaluator for the California Department of Public Health, CDPH. Today’s presentation is titled “Local Health Jurisdictions as a Strategic Priority to Advance Community Health.” In 2022, CDPH allocated 40% of its PHIG funding under the A1 Workforce Strategy to support local assistance across 50 local health jurisdictions.

Objectives, our primary objectives, though not limited to this, one to evaluate the impact of funding on strengthening workforce capacity within local health jurisdictions. Two, to assess the completion of community health assessment and community health improvement plans, methods. We conducted pre- and post-funding surveys to measure progress against baseline conditions from 2022 to 2023.

Results, key findings show measurable progress in statewide capacity development. The average competency score in the workforce and capacity domain increased between 2022 and 2023.

The number of local health jurisdictions with completed community health assessments and Community Health Improvement Plans increased considerably between 2022 and 2023. Looking ahead with continuous support, we anticipate that all local health jurisdictions will update or complete their community health assessments by January 2028, and community health improvement plans by June 2029, in alignment with new mandates in California. In closing, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. Thank you.
