Modernizing Public Health Data: Assessing Infrastructure and Setting Sustainable Priorities for the Future
ResourcesSession Summary
This session will highlight how the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services partnered with Guidehouse, Inc. and the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) to conduct a strategic statewide assessment of public health data infrastructure, identifying key needs and future priorities through a comprehensive Data Landscape Survey and Maturity Evaluation, and a Strategic Assessment Project. In parallel, Nebraska’s Department of Health and Human Services established a collaborative Data Modernization Infrastructure (DMI) model, uniting public health, data, and IT teams through structured governance and biannual summits to foster innovation, sustainability, and cross-program synergy. Together, these case studies demonstrate how interagency collaboration and strong organizational partnerships can drive sustainable, future-focused public health data modernization.
