The Essentials of Leadership and Management (ELM) Power Hour PLUS: Expand Your Impact series equips public health leaders with the strategic insights, practical tools, and real-world strategies needed to lead with confidence and drive meaningful change. Building upon the success of the traditional 60-minute Power Hour format, Power Hour PLUS expands each session to 75 minutes, creating additional time for deeper exploration of leadership concepts, meaningful discussion, practical application, and peer-to-peer engagement.
Description: In this session, participants will explore how to distinguish between solvable problems and underlying polarities, determine when action is needed, and structure decisions that move teams and organizations toward desired outcomes.
Upon successful completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Differentiate between problems that can be solved and polarities that must be managed over time.
- Employ key diagnostic questions to determine whether a challenge is real, relevant, and ready for action.
- Define decision criteria grounded in organizational values and strategic objectives to improve leadership decision-making.
Speakers: Alice J. Schenall, DrPH, MPH, Senior Advisor, Leadership and Learning Unit, ASTHO; Sharon Gloyer, Senior Director, Leadership Programs and Convenings, ASTHO
