  • Washington’s Equity-Focused Leadership Model Enhances Public Health

    The Washington Department of Health (DOH) leveraged PHIG funding to create a leadership competency model prioritizing equity and employee wellbeing. Based on feedback from over 260 employees, the model sets clear expectations for people leaders and aligns leadership development with agency values and goals. This multi-year, employee-driven initiative will introduce professional development tools in November 2024 and new training opportunities in 2025, ensuring accessible pathways for leadership growth. Senior leaders have demonstrated strong support through testimonials and upcoming panels, highlighting the program’s potential to foster a more inclusive and effective public health culture.

  • Seattle/King County Holds Forums with Community Organizations on Reducing Barriers to Contracting

    Public Health - Seattle & King County (PHSKC) is using PHIG funding to host regular forums with community leaders, who are paid for their time to participate in collaborative efforts toward creating more equitable processes when contracting with the department. Group members offer insight into the existing barriers, such as insurance requirements or language barriers, and how the department can improve outreach. These forums will contribute to quality improvement projects that increase opportunities and reduce barriers for community-based organizations to access funds through the department.
