Introduction to the 2024 Governmental Public Health Job Tasks Survey

June 3 @ 3:00 PM EDT - 3:30 PM EDT

  • This event has passed.

As part of CDC’s Public Health Infrastructure Grant (PHIG), national partner Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB) is conducting a Job Task Analysis for the governmental public health workforce. The purpose of the Job Task Analysis is to better understand what tasks people in the workforce do the most and which tasks they believe are the most important to their work. This information will give the workforce, governmental public health leaders, and academic institutions and training programs better insight into what a wide range of governmental public health jobs entail and what might be needed to best support people in these roles.

The survey is available from May 15 – July 31, 2024. The survey will be conducted this year (PHIG Y2) and once more in Y5. Survey results will contribute to the overall PHIG evaluation and will help health departments write more accurate job descriptions, improve recruitment and onboarding, develop more accurate performance management plans, and match employee professional development opportunities with the identified essential job functions of the governmental public health workforce.

The CDC asks all PHIG-funded health departments to encourage employee participation in the survey and to send relevant health department leaders to an upcoming webinar on the survey. The CDC also asks PHIG-funded state and city health departments to work with other county, city, and Tribal health departments in your respective states to promote the survey to those workforces.
